Ever since Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk decided to get into the energy business; traditional energy companies such as coal and big oil, have been showing their dislike for the CEO.
Tesla began it’s energy storage division by building the home powerwall unit meant for off the grid storage, then they acquired Solar City, whilst building the gigafactory. All of these big moves have put other companies on edge.
It became clear today that Tesla is not welcomed when Robert Murray, a climate-change denier and CEO of Murray Energy Corporation, one of the biggest coal mining firms in the US, called Tesla a “fraud” for receiving subsidies without turning a profit.
in an interview with CNBC, Murray said: “Tesla is a fraud. He’s gotten $2 billion from the taxpayer, has not made a penny yet in cash flow, here again it’s subsidies.”
Murray who is a Die Hard Trump supporter pressures his employees into fundraising for him and promises to fire them if Trump does not win the election this coming November. He went on to say that Hilary Clinton wants to give subsidies to clean energy companies and other wealthy Americans just becuase they are her friends, and that they don’t actually have anything to do with supporting the environment.
Musk responded back by saying that the real frauds are the people who are denying climate science. He fired off a tweet saying:
Real fraud going on is denial of climate science. As for “subsidies”, Tesla gets pennies on dollar vs coal. How about we both go to zero?

Earlier this year, Musk argued that ‘people have to revolt against the propaganda of the fossil fuel industry which is unrelenting and enormous’. He stated that the industry made up a story about Musk’s businesses receiving billions of dollars in subsidies to counter the IMF study that found that the fossil fuel industry was receiving the equivalent of ~$5 trillion in subsidy a year.
In the past, Musk, a proponent of a revenue-neutral carbon tax, has voiced his position in favor of ending subsidies in order to move toward a truly free market.
Here is an interesting video describing how renewable energy is slowly taking over and becoming cheaper than fossil fuels.
Instead of using cheap shots and bullying techniques, traditional energy companies should realize that their product is a dying one, and that the only way to survive is to join the band wagon for renewable clean energy. It does not make any sense as to why they continue to try and hold on to old ways, but it seems to only be because of greed, and no other logical reasoning.
